Teaching the Parts of an Insect

I wanted to make a manipulative to show the kids the parts of an insect and at the same time, allow them to use the basic parts to make common insects. So, here’s what I came up with…..

I laminated each of these parts and put velcro on them so that with nothing attached, the insect was an ant (example of a wingless insect). I put a small butterfly, dragonfly, bee, and ladybug nearby. Then they took turns turning the ant into other insects! It was quite a bit of work but like everything laminated with velcro, it should last for years!
